Residents Split On Possible Move By Norwood To Tri-Valley League

Residents had their say on the matter at a forum held this week by the athletic department.

NORWOOD, MA — The only thing certain about the proposal to move Norwood High School athletics from the Bay State Conference to the Tri-Valley League (TVL) is that there is no popular choice.

Residents had their say on the matter at a forum held this week by the athletic department. The school committee will vote on June 21 on whether Norwood High School Athletics Director Jonathan Longley will be allowed to continue the application process and contact the TVL about possible membership.

In the past, school officials have argued that the school is too small to compete against larger schools such as Needham, Newton North, and Wellesley. With Dedham on their way out, Norwood is now the smallest school in the conference.

Paul Samargedlis said the case hasn't been made clear enough and placed any shortcomings on a lack of support and passion from the administration, according to the Norwood Bulletin.

Cathy Shachoy, a member of the Norwood Hall of Fame, asked residents to keep their minds open.

If the application goes forward, the TVL teams will have to vote to accept Norwood into the league. If Norwood is accepted into the league, there will be at least one school year between the vote and the move.
