Boy Scout Builds Flag Retirement Boxes For Peabody
Nicholas McLaughlin built the boxes over several months for his Eagle Scout Project.
PEABODY, MA – Peabody's flags will retire in style, thanks to Troop 88 Scout Nicholas McLaughlin. For his Eagle Scout project, McLaughlin built flag retirement boxes for City Hall, the Main and West Libraries, the Torigian Life Center, and the Department of Public Works.
McLaughlin built the boxes, which are meant to collect the worn flags from the community before their proper retirement, from scratch. He built and painted the five mailbox-sized drop boxes with the help of Troop 88; his father, Kevin McLaughlin; his grandfather, Bob McLaughlin; and his scoutmaster, Shawn Santeer.
Troop 88 and McLaughlin will maintain the boxes and properly retired the flags that are deposited.
