Brothers Kouzina Not Closing Peabody Restaurant After All

The popular Route 1 eatery will remain open after plans for a medical marijuana dispensary on the site fell through.

PEABODY, MA -- Brothers Kouzina, the popular Greek restaurant on Route 1 in Peabody, said on its Facebook page Friday that it will remain open. Earlier this year, the restaurant said it would close and relocate to make way for a medical marijuana dispensary on the site. It's not clear what will become of Phytotherapy, the dispensary that has already received approval from Peabody City Council.

Alex Athanas, president and co-founder of Phytotherapy, is the nephew of Brother's Kouzina owners Penny and Jimmy Christopher, according to state business records.

The restaurant was originally slated to close at the end of July. That date was eventually pushed back to the end of the year.
