Clean Out Your Cabinets In Peabody

The Peabody Police Station is the site for dropping off unused medications for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday.

PEABODY, MA — Peabody police are asking residents to check through their medicine cabinets and look for unused medications, then bring them to the station for the Drug Enforcement Administration's National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday.

The Peabody Police Station is the drop-off location from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the dedicated day.

"The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications," police said.

Unused medications, some of which can be addictive, that fall into the hands of teens and children can be abused or sold. It is not recommended that unused medications be flushed down the toilet because of the risk they can get into the ground water.

The Peabody drop box is open year-round, but "this is a good time to clean out your cabinets."
