Peabody Police Use Drones, K9 Units To Investigate 'Explosions'

PEABODY, MA — Peabody police on Wednesday will use drones and K9 units as they continue to try to find the cause of two large bangs that rocked several neighborhoods in the city and nearby communities late Tuesday morning.

Peabody Fire Prevention said there were "reports of two explosions" in the city around 11:30 a.m. and noon on Tuesday. Many residents took to social media to share their experiences of houses shaking — and even ceilings cracking — from the blasts that several said felt like were coming from somewhere in their own house.

But police were unable to find the source of the crashes on Tuesday. Peabody Fire Prevention said there was no scheduled blasting in the city on Tuesday.

Police said the explosions appear to have happened in the area of Goodwin Circle to downtown Peabody.

"There will be law enforcement drone and canine units in the area (Wednesday) to assist in our investigation to determine the origin of (Tuesday's) loud noises that were heard and felt in Peabody," police said. "If you see a law enforcement canine, please do not approach or interact."

Police said anyone with information on the noises should call the non-emergency line at 978-531-1212.

"Thank you to all who have reached out and we will continue to inform the community when we have more to add," Peabody police said on Wednesday morning.
