Hard Times Fund Seeking Donations

Each year, PMLP customers voluntarily contribute funds to the Hard Times Partnership Fund through NSCAP to assist people in need.

In 1985, the Peabody Municipal Light Plant and the North Shore Community Action Program established the “Hard Times Partnership Fund” to help neighbors in need with their winter heating bills. Generous contributions from Peabody and South Lynnfield customers have assisted the elderly and disabled, the unemployed, the working poor, those with high medical bills, and families unable to meet their winter fuel costs.

A bill insert and envelope are being delivered to all PMLP customers in November and December with their monthly electric bill. According to General Manager Glenn Trueira, “This partnership began with NSCAP based on our concern for people in need, especially during the holiday season.” Light commissioner Bill Aylward said, “The Peabody Municipal Lighting Commission remains committed to this program, and all the commissioners hope people will seek help through NSCAP if they are up against it this year.”

NSCAP Executive Director, Laura M. MacNeil said, “NSCAP is grateful to the people of Peabody and South Lynnfield who have donated to the Peabody Hard Times Partnership Fund. With these funds, we are able to help keep the heat and utilities on for families in need, ensuring that they are were warm during the winter months. We look forward to once again assisting our neighbors experiencing hardship.”
