Come out for a community gathering celebrating the birthday of the city's light plant.

The City’s Municipal Light Plant will celebrate their 125 year anniversary on Saturday.
There will be face painting, music, give-a-ways, balloons, safety displays and materials, conservation information and materials, and the opportunity to ‘touch a PMLP truck.’ Science Fair projects will also be on display.
This free community event will be held at our Main Office Building, 201 Warren Street.

Founded in 1891, the Light Plant became its own entity after splitting off from the Salem Electrical Company. The plant started on coal power, changed over to steam, then oil-fired diesel. Today, it runs on oil-fired gas turbines.
The celebration kicks off at 10 a.m., and is free to all. There will be grilled food available also.
