Peabody, MA -- If ever there was a time to delight in the start of a New Year, this is it. Twelve months ago, we had optimistic to-do lists and far-reaching goals. Then 2020 took a different turn and our circles became a little smaller. More time at home came with unexpected benefits and unanticipated challenges. Coming off the uncertainty of 2020 and into a fresh start for 2021, it’s time to focus on what we can control.

Maybe this is the year to consider meaningful change, to reconsider lifestyles, and to focus on what matters most. It’s time to step into a new season.

“When customers compare their current living expenses to what’s provided at Brooksby, they often find they’ll spend less here and receive more in terms of services and amenities than they would if they stayed in their home,” says Sales Director Suzanne Davis.

Margaret Raymond sold her house in Malden, Mass., and moved to Brooksby Village in December 2018.

“One of the last things I did in my house was buy a pool cover for $2,000,” says Margaret, a retired teacher. “That’s when I realized I didn’t want to worry about big expenses anymore.”

Margaret visited senior living options in and around Malden, but it was Brooksby Village in Peabody that made the greatest impression. “The lifestyle and amenities are unparalleled here,” says Margaret. “I met with Jane [Kiegel, sales counselor], and we went over the numbers together. She showed me this lifestyle was within reach. Now, here I am, in heaven.”

“Brooksby Village provides financial value and security to residents through a transparent sales process, predictable expenses, and the long-term benefits of our 90% refundable entrance deposit and Resident Care Fund,” says Davis. “Our residents enjoy a quality lifestyle with exceptional care at a great value.”

Resolve to focus on your health and well-being

A recent YouGov poll found that, among those who said they make New Year’s resolutions, three of the top four most-popular goals relate to health and fitness. Fifty percent resolve to exercise more, 49% want to save money, 43% resolve to eat more healthily, and 37% want to lose weight. We’ve all heard the keys to sticking with an exercise regimen: make it a priority, set attainable goals, change up your workouts. But the reality is, most people give up their newfound resolve before the calendar turns to February.

At Brooksby Village, an active lifestyle is just steps from your front door. With an on-site fitness center, indoor swimming pool, and exercise studio, you’re never far from a variety of workout options.

“We welcome residents of all abilities and fitness levels,” says Fitness Manager Rokia Paone. “Our highly trained staff will help customize a program that’s just right for you.” L

Linda Blake moved to Brooksby Village from East Kingston, N.H., in August 2018. “I didn’t know a soul at Brooksby when I moved in, but I knew how much the community has to offer,” she says. “I’ve taken advantage of everything there is to do here.”

Linda participates in group exercise classes, plays cribbage and women’s billiards, and tends two garden patches. In the midst of last year’s slower pace, she also picked up a new daily routine. “I started walking for an hour and a half around the Brooksby campus each morning,” she says. “I get to enjoy the natural beauty of the community and see the changing seasons. It makes me feel good.”

Resolve to invest in relationships

Loneliness and social isolation in older adults pose serious health risks, according to the CDC. Social isolation is associated with about a 50% increased risk of dementia and other serious medical conditions. Dr. Steve Cole, Ph.D., professor of medicine and bio-behavioral sciences at the UCLA, studies the effects of loneliness at the molecular level. In research funded by the National Institute on Aging, Dr. Cole found that “loneliness acts as a fertilizer for other diseases.

The biology of loneliness can accelerate the buildup of plaque in arteries, help cancer cells grow and spread, and promote inflammation in the brain leading to Alzheimer’s disease. Loneliness promotes several different types of wear and tear on the body.” The antidote lies in community.

Brooksby Village is home to more than 1,700 residents, all with varying backgrounds and interests. Jim Silva is one of Brooksby’s pioneer residents. He moved to the Peabody community in July 2000, one month after the grand opening celebration.

“Making friends is an important part of living here,” says Jim. “As Brooksby has grown, I’ve made friends in all three neighborhoods. When you move in, you find this is a good place to meet people and socialize and really expand your life experiences. Your life blossoms with all the new people you meet.”
