Obituary: Alex Vitale, 17, Honors Student at Malden Catholic High School

He was involved with the campus ministry, was president of Lancers Buddies Program helping special needs students, and was on the swim team.

Alex Vitale, 17, beloved son of Ronald and Robin (Richard) Vitale of Peabody, died as a result of injuries sustained from a car accident in Peabody on Sunday, Oct. 25.

Born in Beverly, he lived in Peabody all his life. He graduated from St. John the Baptist School in Peabody, and was currently a Senior at Malden Catholic High School. Alex was an Honors Student who was also very active at Malden Catholic, using his enthusiastic smile, charm and personality to be a leader in school spirit.

He was involved with the Campus Ministry, Lancers-in-Action, was President of Lancers Buddies Program helping students with Special Needs, and was on the Swim Team. He volunteered for numerous causes and was a long time volunteer with the St. John the Baptist Food Pantry in Peabody. He played several sports including lacrosse, football, and basketball in Peabody.

His aspiration was to study Finance at the University of Massachusetts as his sister, but his cherished treasure was his passionate devotion to his family, enjoying a very close bond with his cousins, and an infectious joy of life welcoming friends. He is survived by his parents Ronald and Robin Vitale of Peabody; a sister Lindsay Vitale of Peabody; his paternal grandparents Salvatore & Carol (Mahoney) Vitale of Melrose; aunts and uncles Nadine & Jim Gallo of Newburyport, Peter & Cindy Richard of Plaistow, NH, Tom Vitale of Melrose, Gary & Zaida Vitale of Melrose, Laura & Bill Mulcahy of North Reading, Leslie & Paul Norris of Melrose, and Lee & Charlie Falite of Melrose; his Godfather, Bob & Kathy Kibbey of Wolfeboro, NH; eight cousins Randy, Cory & Jimmy Gallo, Nick & Brooke Norris, Thomas & Ashley Falite, and Matthew Mulcahy. His maternal grandparents preceded him in death, the late Norman & Sheila (Horgan) Richard.
