Obituary: Barbara A. (Mahoney) McCarthy, Her Passion in Life Was Caregiving

Barbara A. (Mahoney) McCarthy, 83, beloved wife of the late William S. McCarthy, died peacefully on Sunday morning at the Blueberry Hill Healthcare Facility in Beverly following an extended illness.
Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late James and Gwendolyn (Cook) Mahoney. She grew up in Medford and graduated from Medford High School.

She completed training to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). She was a Pediatric Nurse at North Shore Children’s Hospital before retiring.
Barbara’s passion in life was caregiving, especially being at home with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by two sons and three daughters. James McCarthy & his wife Ruth Larkin of North Hampton, NH and Steven McCarthy & his wife Robin of Peabody; three daughters, Daryl Montenero of North Reading, Christine Weir & her husband John of Peabody, and Lisa McCarthy Gaffney of Peabody; eight grandchildren, Steven, Ryan, Madison, Tommy, Diana, Billy, John and Jimmy; two great-grandchildren, Hunter and Griffin, and one nieces and one nephew. She was preceded in death, besides her husband and parents, by a son William “Billy” McCarthy and son-in-law Dr. Thomas R. Montenero, and grandson Matthew Weir.
Following cremation, relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Friday June 26, 2015, from 9:30 – 11 AM in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Service at 11 AM in the funeral home. Urn burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
