Obituary: William H. Taeger, 92, of Peabody

Taeger served in the Coast Guard during World War II

William H. Taeger, 92, of Peabody, died peacefully on Monday, October 12, 2015 at the home that he built with his family at his side. He was born in Cambridge, MA on October 15, 1922, the son of the late William H. and Stella (MacLean) Taeger and had resided most of his life in Peabody.

He was first employed as a contract builder with his partner, Al Budesky operating the B. & T. Construction Company in Peabody for 25 years. He later worked at Bessom and Tilton Inc. Appraisal Co. Lynnfield for 20 years prior to his retirement.

Bill was a veteran of the US Coast Guard serving in WW II aboard the USS Everett and had been a long time active member of the V.F.W. Post 1011 in Peabody. He had been a past commander and also served in the state officers in many capacities over the years helping veterans in the Peabody area. He enjoyed woodworking and finished a scale model of the USS Everett in wood. He was also a member of the Peabody Historical Society and had belonged to the former Cy Tenney Club in West Peabody for many years. Bill was a member of the American Legion Post 153 of Peabody and had been a member of the City of Peabody Veterans Council and was an active in many civic programs with the City of Peabody.

He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Wayne and Debra Taeger of Peabody and William H. Taeger and his companion Carol Demers of Tenn., his long time companion Kelly Stokes of Peabody, 4 grandchildren, Bridgette and her husband Earl Kelleher of Lafayette, IN, Shaun Kelleher with the US Army in Saudi Arabia, Candice Kelleher of Beverly, and Kelly and her husband James Kadra of Williamsburg, VA, three great grandchildren, Damon Tenney, Serenna and Elias Kadra and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Donald Taeger and the former husband of June R. (Beaulieu) Taeger McAlpine of Edgewater, Fl.
