What's Closed, Canceled And Delayed In Peabody On Tuesday

Patch has a running list of cancellations in town -- check back regularly as more are added.

PEABODY, MA -- Peabody Public Schools will be closed Tuesday and the city has declared a snow emergency effective midnight Monday ahead of the third major winter storm in as many weeks. The city also postponed trash collection for Tuesday, meaning the rest of the week's trash collection schedule will be pushed back one day this week.

A winter storm warning goes into effect at 11 pm Monday and will be in place until 8 pm on Tuesday. Forecasters are calling for blizzard-like conditions and 12-18 inches of snow on the North Shore.

  • Peabody City Hall and city offices are closed Tuesday.
  • Peabody Recreation is closed Tuesday.
  • PAT (Peabody TV) is closed Tuesday.
  • As of Monday evening, the YMCA of the North Shore was planning a delayed opening at 11 am. ELC and School Age Programs are closed for Tuesday.
  • Many of Beverly Hospital's outpatient clinics and sites are closed today. If you have a question about an appointment or a specific site's status, please contact that site directly.
  • The MBTA's will operate on an "extremely reduced" schedule. More information is available on the MBTA's Web site.
  • All Massachusetts courts are closed on Tuesday.
  • Massachusetts RMV Service Centers are closed.

The city will post a notice on its Website when it has lifts the snow emergency, which bans on-street parking. If you do not have off-street parking, there may be options available in your area. Call 978-538-6312 for more information.

DPW crews have more than 170 miles of roadways to clear in Peabody, so while the city does not have an ordinance requiring property owners to clear sidewalks of snow, it says their help in doing so is "greatly appreciated." Peabody officials also ask for residents' help in digging out the 1,800 fire hydrants in the city.

Finally, the city asks residents to call 978-536-7114 with specific service requests during storms. This, the city says, is the most efficient way to contact the city during a snowstorm.
