Peabody Woman, Lynn Man Identified As Peabody Shooting Victims

Police said both victims are expected to survive after gunfire struck cars on Veterans Memorial Drive shortly before midnight.

PEABODY, MA — A 23-year-old Peabody woman and 22-year-old Lynn man suffered gunshot wounds in Thursday night's shootings on Veterans Memorial Drive.

Police Capt. Dennis Bonaiuto told Patch early Friday afternoon that the Peabody woman had already been released from the hospital, and both are expected to survive, after the second shooting incident in the city this week.

Late Sunday morning, bullet holes were found in a car near 149 Main Street.

"Any time we have a shooting — any shootings actually — we look for common elements and look for commonality," Bonaiuto told Patch, "especially when you have two where they are as close in time to what happened on Sunday. But there is nothing, at this point in time, to indicate either of these two shootings are connected."

Bonaiuto said police are looking for a possible suspect in Thursday's shootings who was in a four-door silver Chevrolet Malibu.

Police said they responded to Veterans Memorial Drive about 11 p.m. on Thursday and found the Peabody woman suffering from a gunshot wound in her left wrist. She was taken to North Shore Medical Center where she was treated and released.

Bonaiuto the second victim — the 22-year-old from Lynn — suffered a gunshot wound in his thigh area and that his friends were taking him to the hospital when police intercepted the vehicle and contacted emergency services.

He was brought to Mass. General Hospital with the injury that was not believed to be life-threatening.

Bonaiuto said at least two other vehicles had gunshot damage and that at least five shots were fired in total.

He said the investigation is ongoing into Thursday night's shooting, and any connection to the gunshots on Main Street Sunday morning.

"We have to dig deeper with the investigation to find out what's going on, and what the motivations were, and what prompted this," Bonaiuto said. "The detectives are still looking into that."

State Police and the State Police Ballistics Unit are assisting Peabody police in the investigation.
