Peabody's Jake Gustin Named NEC Baseball Player Of The Week

The Peabody High alum went 14-for-24 with five doubles, a home run, nine RBI and nine runs scored in five games for Bryant University.

PEABODY, MA —Peabody High alumnus Jake Gustin lit it up on the diamond for Bryant University this week as he delivered 14 hits in five games, tied the program's Division I record for hits in a game and was named Northeastern Conference Player of the Week.

Gustin was named Player of the Week during a 4-1 run where teammate Tyler Mattison was named NEC Pitcher of the Week and Austin Wainer was named NEC Rookie of the Week.

Gustin went 14-for-24 with five doubles, a home run, nine RBI and nine runs scored in five games for the Bulldogs.

In three games vs FDU he hit .600 (9-for-15) with six RBI and seven runs scored. Gustin tied
Bryant's DI single-game record for hits with five in Sunday's series finale.

The junior hit .321 (18-for-56) with seven doubles, two triples, a home run, eight RBI and 10 runs scored in last year's coronavirus-shortened sophomore season.

As a freshman, he started 50 games and hit .287 with eight doubles, one triple, one home run, 27 RBI and 43 runs scored.

A two-time team MVP at Peabody High, he led the conference with a .529 batting average his senior year, graduating with a .416 career batting average with 102 hits, nine home runs and only five strikeouts over his final two seasons.

Bryant returns to NEC play this weekend with a three-game series at rival Sacred Heart.
