PMLP 2021 Historic Calendar Available

In 2021, PMLP celebrates its 130th year supplying power to the ratepayers of Peabody. This is the 9th edition of the calendar.

PEABODY – The PMLP 2021 historic calendar is now available. 2021 is a milestone for PMLP as it celebrates 130 years of supplying power to the ratepayers of Peabody. For some, the calendar is a trip down memory lane, and for others, it’s a view of what Peabody looked like in years past. This is the 9th year that PMLP has published the calendar with help from the Peabody Historical Society, the Lynnfield Historical Society.

The popular large-format calendar is usually available in the PMLP lobby, but due to COVD-19 precautions, public access remains closed. Calendars are available at various locations including Peabody City Hall, the Peter A. Torigian Senior Center, the Peabody Institute Library, the Lynnfield Public Library, and most banks and credit unions in the downtown area. They are also distributed to various area assisted living sites. Only 5,000 calendars are printed, and they will be available while supplies last. When visiting any pick-up point, please be mindful of COVID-19 restrictions and special hours of operation.

The 2021 PMLP calendar includes pictures of the women of the JB Thomas Hospital Aid Association, Girl Scouts of 1947, The Ship Restaurant, Rex Trailer at the Northshore Shopping Center, as well as many historic businesses and homes. This year, one month is dedicated to PMLP’s newest substation which became fully operational in 2020.

One of the purposes of the calendar is to promote energy efficiency, so tips for conservation are peppered throughout the months. There is also information about the value of Public Power.

The back page of the calendar again shows many of the employees of PMLP as well as the commissioners of the Peabody Municipal Lighting Commission. Due to COVID-19 a group picture wasn’t practical this year. Instead, individual photos of employees were taken. Each team member is wearing a blue T-shirt to pay tribute to the health care professional who continue to work tirelessly to serve the people of our community.

Plant Manager, Charles J. Orphanos said, “It was important for us to make a public statement about the essential workers in the healthcare industry. They have made great sacrifices this year, and we are truly appreciative.” Orphanos went on to say, “As essential workers ourselves, my thanks also go out to each and every employee of the light plant. We have what we have in Peabody because of their efforts.”

Photographs were provided by the local historical societies and the content was edited by JC Marketing Associates which has been involved since the first PMLP historic calendar was released in 2013.

The Peabody Municipal Light Plant is the community owned, not-for-profit utility company serving the residents of Peabody and South Lynnfield.
