PWLL 8's Finish With Win in Swampscott Tourney

Peabody West finished the tournament with a 4-1 record ...

SWAMPSCOTT — The Peabody West 8-year-old All Star Team finished the Swampscott Tournament with a 12-2 win over Swampscott to close out the tournament with a 4-1 record; PWLL's only loss came to Saugus American.

Peabody West's bats came alive late in the game, scoring 10 runs over the final two innings to break the game open.

Tyler McMahon started on the hill for PWLL, striking out six batters in two innings of work. Jared Devereaux took over and threw two scoreless innings — he struck out four — and Anthony Ragusa closed out the game in the fifth, striking out the side to preserve the win.

Gavin Jurczyk led off the game with a walk for PWLL and he advanced to third on a double by Patrick Woods. Jurczyk would score on a single by Ryan Skerry and Woods scored on a single by Deveraux to give Peabody West an early 2-0 lead.

Peabody West score more in the third inning. McMahon led off the inning with a walk and then stole second and third before taking home plate on a passed ball. Meanwhile, Jurczyk (walk), Brayden Beals (walk) and Woods (walk) all reached base and scored in the inning. Skerry doubled — which brought in Jurczyk and Beals — and he scored when Deveraux followed that with a double to the outfield.

The offense continued to remain hot in the fourth inning. Landon Lohnes led off with a single and Ricky Williams also reached base on a hit. Kamron Turner walked to load the bases and Geovanni Capo walked, which scored Lohnes. Andrew Wenzel also walked and scored.
