Safety Advice for Trick-or-Treaters
Police suggest trick-or-treaters keep their hours to 5-8 p.m. on Halloween and offer safety tips for kids while they're out combing the neighborhood for candy.
There are no set trick-or-treating hours in Peabody for Halloween, but the Police Department suggests parents head out with their kids in costume from 5-8 p.m.
Here is some advice courtesy of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children that police are sharing with parents for trick-or-treating on Thursday:
- Make sure older children take friends and stay together while trick-or-treating.
- Never send younger children out alone -- they should be with a parent, guardian or another trusted adult.
- Always walk younger children to the door to receive treats.
- Don't let children enter a home unless you are with them.
- Be sure children do not approach any vehicle, occupied or not, unless you are with them.
Police also encourage parents to make sure their children carry flashlights or glow sticks, wear bright costumes or attach reflective wristbands or tape to their outfits in order to make themselves more visible to motorists and avoid any accidents.
