Saugus Man Charged In Four-Car Crash On Route 1

Police said the driver, who hit three other cars, was high on drugs.

PEABODY, MA — Peabody police plan to summons a 51-year-old Saugus man on eight charges following a four-car crash on Route 1 Sunday afternoon.

The man, whose name was not released, was taken to Beverly Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. A 76-year-old man who was driving one of the other cars also suffered minor injuries. Police were working to get dash camera footage of the crash from one of the drivers.

According to the Salem News, a driver called police at 1:55 p.m. after seeing the Hyundai driven by the Saugus man bounce off several other cars on the northbound side of the highway.

The Saugus man will be charged with operating under the influence of drugs (third offense), operating under the influence with a suspended license, operating under the influence with a revoked license, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of an accident and possession of a stolen motor vehicle, as well as traffic violations.
