Severe Storms Bring Flooding, Power Outages To North Shore
More than 200 were without power in Danvers; Route 1 was closed near the Lynnfield/Peabody line for flooding early Wednesday evening.

UPDATED 8:15 p.m.
PEABODY, MA — A line of heavy storms that arrived in the North Shore at the tail end of the evening commute on Wednesday caused flooding and power outages across the region.
Winds gusted from 45 to 60 miles per hour for a short time, while heavy rains closed Route 1 in the area of the Peabody and Lynnfield town line.

The state Department of Transportation reported the flooding subsided and the road reopened in both directions shortly before 8 p.m.
Danvers reported widespread power outages of more than 200 customers around 7 p.m.

The town of Danvers said power was believed to be restored to all customers shortly after 8 p.m.
Heavy rains also pelted Beverly with reports of trees down and flooding in several sections of the city. There were about 250 customers without power in Beverly as of 8:15 p.m.

Storms, although not as strong, were expected to continue until around midnight.
Thursday is forecast to be a rainy, humid and a slightly cooler day after temperatures hit 100 degrees in Boston for the first time in 10 years on Wednesday and hovered in the mid-90s on much of the North Shore.
The holiday weekend looks much cooler with a chance of showers each day.
