Spring Pond Nature Trail Opens Wednesday

Peabody's newest nature trial will kick off with a ribbon cutting and walking tour hosted by Mayor Bettencourt.

PEABODY, MA – The Spring Pond Nature Trail in Peabody will open to the public with a ceremonial ribbon cutting and walking tour Wednesday evening hosted by Mayor Edward Bettencourt.

The trail is the second phase of the South Peabody Trail Project, which connects about 300 acres of open space for walkers, joggers, cyclists and various nature enthusiasts. Phase one of the project was completed last November with the opening of the Mayor Michael J. Bonfanti Nature Trail and Conservation Area at Sydney's Pond.

This trail and the Spring Pond Trail are connected by the Cedar Grove Cemetery and an isthmus next to the Coolidge Avenue Water Treatment Plant.

"Peabody residents can take great pride in the city’s newest nature trail," Bettencourt said in a press release.
"The land surrounding lower Spring Pond has always been great for walking, biking and just enjoying
nature. Our goal was simply to make it more accessible so that more people could enjoy such a
wonderful area of the city."

The South Peabody Trail Project is funded by a $925,000 Gateway City Parks Program grant from the state Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs.
