State Budget Includes $1.25 Million For Peabody Road Repairs
The money will be used to resurface nearly 20 roadways in Peabody.
From the City of Peabody: The City of Peabody has received $1.25 million from the state to repair and resurface roads throughout the City.
“New England winters never fail to wreak havoc on our roadways,” said Mayor Bettencourt. “Month after month of ice, snow and bitter cold temperatures eat away at even the best laid road surfaces.”
Each year, the Legislature provides millions of dollars to 351 Massachusetts cities and towns in so-called Chapter 90 funding. This funding is a mainstay in local budgets and helps municipalities pay for road resurfacing as well as new road construction.

“Chapter 90 money is critical for us to be able to fix those roads that are in most need of repair,” Bettencourt said. “We will be able to completely resurface a number of roads throughout the city and then use the rest of the money to fill potholes and make other structural repairs to Peabody roads.”
Mayor Bettencourt expressed gratitude to Peabody’s legislative delegation, including Senator Joan Lovely and Representatives Tom Walsh and Ted Speliotis for their efforts in securing the Chapter 90 funds.

That phase of the project includes a city-wide street paving initiative designed to restore road surfaces adversely affected by construction.
