Trashy Video Sparks Call To Clean Up Peabody Litter

Bonnie Stevens is organizing a community cleanup event on April 11 after a Facebook video was posted of a trash-strewn downtown Peabody.

PEABODY, MA —A video of litter strewn downtown recently posted in a Peabody community group garnered plenty of reaction.

The post titled "Peabody Is Gorgeous" caused some commenters to lament the state of the city, attack each other or criticize the person posting the video for publicizing the eyesore instead of doing something about himself through picking up some of the litter.

Rather than wallow in the morass of negativity, Bonnie Stevens decided to view the video as a call to action.

"So I wanted to take a positive approach and decided to do a volunteer clean-up," she told Patch. "After posting about it, many have reached out to say they would like to join."

The community cleanup is planned for April 11 at 10 a.m. Stevens said she will provide trash bags and gloves to the steps of the courthouse where the cleanup will begin.

She said as of Friday about 10 other community members had committed to help her and her family, but that there is room for more.

"I also thought about the small business owner who has been so negatively affected by COVD and I think it's important to do something for them so we will be going up and down Main Street," she said.

To volunteer to assists Stevens, her family and the rest of the cleanup crew contact her on her Facebook page.
