Voluntary Water Restriction in Effect

Residents are asked only to water their lawns every other day

PEABODY – Mayor Edward Bettencourt has declared a water emergency for Peabody due to the summer's drought. The ban went into effect July 8.

Phase I of the water emergency is a voluntary request of residents to conserve water by watering lawns every other day by the following means:

  • Via sprinklers or by hose (both in-ground and above-ground systems). Odd number houses Monday-Wednesday-Friday only 6:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Even number houses Tuesday-Thursday-Saturday only.
  • Cars may only be washed during scheduled watering times.
  • No Sunday watering allowed.

If precipitation does not improve and usage does not decrease, a press release from the city states, Phase II of the emergency may be implemented. Phase II calls for mandatory water restriction.

The city stresses that lawns should only be watered when necessary--early in the morning, if possible. Lawns only require one inch of water per week. For more information, click here.
