What Are You Doing New Year's Eve?

Here's what you need to know today in Peabody.

Today is Thursday, Dec. 26. Here are five things to know today in Peabody.

  1. Are your plans all set to ring in 2014 yet? There's a special comedy show planned to ring in the new year at the Elks Club. Larry Lee Lewis and Johnny Joyce will perform for the night with a buffet, dancing, live band and more. A portion of the proceeds will benefit a pancreatic cancer fund in memory of John "Oogie" May, who died earlier this year.
  2. Stonewood Tavern also says it's planning a New Year's Eve party with complimentary hors d"oeuvres, champagne and party favors. Tickets and dinner reservations are now available.
  3. If the snow hasn't all melted away first, you can get some skiing in at Brooksby Farm. The Ski Haus is now open during school vacation periods and weekends from 10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Regular weekday hours are Monday and Wednesday from 1-4:30 p.m. and Friday from noon - 4:30 p.m. Cross country skiing and snowshoe rentals in all sizes are available for $10 per person ($5 for kids under 13). Payment is by cash or check only. Lessons are also available for $15. Call Randy Weld at 978-536-7132 for more details and conditions.
  4. And speaking of school vacation, are your kids signed up for any of the activities with the Recreation Department? There are a number of programs scheduled this week and next. Check www.peabodyrecreation.com for more details and to register.
  5. Zentangle Group: There's a Zentangle group that meets in the Trustees Room at the library on the second and fourth Thursday of every month. Zentangle is a method that uses structured patterns to create artwork. Bring your own supplies. Recommended items include white card stock, a black micron pen and a pencil. New members are always welcome.
