YMCA of Metro North Half Marathon Raises Money for LiveSTRONG
YMCA of Metro North half marathon hosted in Peabody raises money for cancer survivors to attend its LIVESTRONG at the Y program.
The YMCA of Metro North concluded its 2019 Road Race Season on Saturday, November 23 with its LiveSTRONG at the Y Half Marathon at Lt. Ross Park in Peabody. The event raised nearly $25,000 for the YMCA of Metro North LiveSTRONG at the Y program at the Torigan Family YMCA.
The LiveSTRONG 12-week, small group program is free to adult cancer survivors. It supports the increasing number of cancer survivors who find themselves in the transitional period between completing their cancer treatment and the shift to feeling physically and emotionally strong enough to attempt to return to their normal life. Through LiveSTRONG at the Y, cancer survivors improve their strength and physical fitness in a supportive environment outside of a medical facility. The YMCA of Metro North operates LiveSTRONG programs in three of its branches: Melrose, Peabody and Saugus.
“LiveSTRONG at the Y has been a life changer for adult cancer survivors who want to reclaim their health and return to normal life. It provides a supportive community where participants can improve their strength and overall wellness,” said Rob Lowell, Executive Director, Torigian Family YMCA in Peabody. “We are very grateful to the more than 400 people who came out to support this event and helped us widen the circle of support for the cancer survivors in the program.”
