Middleborough Police Identify Suspect In Shooting Incident

Police identify Raymond Gibson, of Falmouth as the suspect behind a shooting near a MassDOT facility Friday morning.

MIDDLEBOROUGH, MA — Chief Joseph Perkins has identified Raymond Gibson, 55, of Falmouth as the shooting suspect who initiated a shelter in place on Route 28 Friday morning.

Gibson was found and placed under arrest near a MassDOT facility on West Grove Street at 11:30 a.m.

SWAT team members joined Middleborough police in an extensive search for the gunman after police received word that he had taken off into the woods and was considered armed and dangerous.

Police then initiated a shelter-in-place for the area of 201 West Grove Street near Route 28 while they searched for the shooter.

Police say Gibson has a valid License to Carry a firearm and the gun seized by police was registered in his name. His License to Carry is now suspended by the Falmouth Police Department pending review.

Route 28 northbound was closed for 2 hours while police looked for the suspect.

Police reported that no one was hurt, but two cars were damaged by gunshots.

The shelter-in-place order went into effect around 9:20 a.m. Friday.
