Five Things You Need to Know Today: Basketball Signups, Music and More

It's Monday, June 17, and here's what you ought to know.

1. Registration for the Plymouth Girls Basketball League’s 2013-2014 season is now open. The PGBL is Plymouth’s only all-girl basketball league with four divisions serving grades 2 to 8. The instructional division is open to all first- and second-grade girls with the focus on teaching the fundamentals of the game and basic basketball skills. Girls in the house divisions (grades 4 to 8) have one practice and one game each week. League play begins in December and registration includes a game shirt for each player. Registration forms are available on the PGBL website at www.plymouthgirlsbasketball.org.

2. The third annual Panther Basketball School will be held at Plymouth South Middle School from July 15 to 18. The camp is open to all boys entering grades 4-9 in the fall. The school runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day with coaching by the Plymouth South coaching staff. The camp director is Plymouth South Boys Basketball Head Coach David Costa. 3. Leonard Vaz, the Musicians Performance Fund coordinator of Local 281, A.F. of M., has announced that L. Knife and Son is co-sponsoring the free 2013 Summer Concert Series with the Musicians Performance Trust Funds, the Town of Plymouth Promotions Fund, the Plymouth Cultural Council, L.E. Cook Monument Co. and Ernie’s Restaurant. Concerts are held on the waterfront near Plymouth Rock and begin at 7 p.m. every Thursday from June through Sept. 5. If a concert must be postponed due to the weather, it will be held the following Tuesday.

4. Pilgrim Hall Museum’s major fundraiser of the year, “Green Pastures, Bluegrass and BBQ,” will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 22, at 75 Court St. Dress in casual Western attire and enjoy BBQ catered by Truman’s Catering and live music by Four Bridges. Then get ready to bid on auction items with auctioneer, Rep. Vinny deMacedo. All proceeds support the mission of education and preservation. Tickets are $75 each or $675 for a table of 10.
