Five Things You Need to Know Today: Burger Showdown and Old Sandwich Road Race

What's happening around Plymouth June 1.

1. The Market at the Pinehills presents the Burger Showdown at noon, Saturday, June 1. For a $5 donation to the One Fund Boston, you can try four burgers and vote for your favorite.

2. Friends of Burial Hill will present a special event, “What is and Once Was,’ beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 1, at the 1749 Courthouse Museum in Town Square. James Blachowicz, professor of philosophy at Loyola University, will give a visual presentation highlighting selected stones from his book, From Slate to Marble, Gravestone Carving Traditions in Eastern Massachusetts 1770-1870, as well as other stones that will be discussed in Volume II. Following his presentation there will be a break for lunch. Take your own, visit a local eatery or purchase a box lunch. Further information will be provided when you register. 3. The fourth annual Old Sandwich Road Race starts at 10 a.m. Sunday, June 2, from Plymouth South High School. Choose to run the half marathon, 5K or 10K.

4. Plimoth Plantation’s annual heirloom plant sale continues from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. June 1 and 2 in the Hornblower Horticultural Center. The sale is a perennial favorite, featuring 17th century English and Native herbs, vegetables and flowers, as well as current favorites like heirloom tomatoes, broccoli raab, lemon grass, annual bedding flowers and more.
