Helicopters To Distribute Rabies Vaccine Baits In Plymouth, Cape

The vaccines will be distributed throughout southeastern Massachusetts from May 3-8.

PLYMOUTH, MA — Helicopters will distribute oral rabies vaccine (ORV) baits in Plymouth starting Monday, according to the Cape Cod & Southeast Massachusetts Rabies Task Force.

The ORV distribution will take place daily from May 3 to 8 in areas of southeastern Massachusetts where terrestrial rabies vectors, including raccoons, foxes and coyotes, frequent. Areas where pets and people reside will be avoided.

Although the baits are not typically harmful to people or pets, residents are asked to obey leash laws and call 877-722-6725 if a bait is found. Every bait consumed by a domestic animal is considered a lost dose that could have gone to an unvaccinated wild animal.
