Local Childcare Center Supports Cancer Prevention Event on 8/17
Crayon College and Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition team up to prevent cancer.

Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition (MBCC), the state’s leading breast cancer organization dedicated to prevention, will be hosting its annual, statewide Against the Tide athletic fundraising event for the 20th year on August 17th. Proceeds from the event benefit MBCC’s community education programs and outreach. MBCC attributes the success of its events to the support received from local organizations and businesses through sponsorships and volunteerism. Crayon College of Bourne will be supporting MBCC’s event at DCR’s Nickerson State Park in Brewster.
Crayon College is a local large-group childcare center with three locations in Kingston, Plymouth and Bourne. Owners Lucinda Morgan and Mathew Muratore started the business in 2004 with their first location on Main Street in Kingston. In 2007, the company expanded to Plymouth and most recently a third location in the summer of 2016 in Bourne. All three locations offer Infant, Toddler and Preschool programs running year-round, and offer a fun educational option for families, whether they are looking for their first school experience or quality childcare.
Program Director, Meghan Muratore says, “Crayon College is excited to help the Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition to spread awareness in our community about the importance of Breast Cancer Prevention and we look forward to being a part of this event on August 17th.”

The award-winning Crayon College believes that children learn and develop best when in a secure, loving environment. Since they are concerned with the whole child, they aim to balance development in all areas: social, emotional, physical, and intellectual. The teachers here are dedicated to helping children grow at their natural pace by building their self-confidence, strengths, and skills. Simply stated the philosophy of Crayon College is to provide high-quality, safe, secure care and learning experiences for children in a positive atmosphere.
“We are very fortunate to have passionate people, like the staff and members of Crayon College, who care about our programs and mission,” says MBCC's Executive Director Cheryl Osimo. “Their compassion and generosity allow MBCC to continue to work towards our unique goal of breast cancer prevention.”

Against the Tide is a family-friendly and inspirational event that brings people from all demographics together with one goal in mind: breast cancer prevention. The event offers participants of all ages the choice of up to four of the following components: competitive and recreational swims, recreational kayak, fitness walk, paddleboard and USA Track & Field certified 5K/10K runs. The event also offers an Aquathon component, where participants compete in the one-mile swim and immediately run 5K or 10K.
MBCC is inviting people throughout Massachusetts to register for the event at www.mbcc.org/swim or by calling 1-800-649-MBCC (6222). Those who cannot attend are encouraged to make a pledge to a registered participant or team. Participants may register as an individual or as part of a team. Registration is $40 per adult per event activity ($80 for Aquathon) or $25 per student per event activity ($50 for Aquathon). Children under 10 may participate in any event free of charge. Participants may register for a maximum of four events. We encourage all participants to fundraise beyond the registration minimum, as all proceeds support Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition. Prizes will be awarded to the podium finishers and top fundraisers.
