Man Found Dead After Falling Through Ice In Wareham
Thomas Bartholomew was found under a thick layer of ice near the shoreline Monday afternoon.
WAREHAM, MA — A man died Sunday after falling through the ice in Wareham, said Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz in a news release.
Thomas Bartholomew, 44, of Wareham, was found Monday afternoon under a thick layer of ice on a pond behind 786 Country Road, said Cruz.
Wareham Police and Fire Departments responded to a report of a man possibly drowned in the pond approximately 4:31 p.m. Sunday said Cruz. They were initially unsuccessful in their attempt to locate the man and requested additional assistance from a Plymouth County Dive Team, Wareham Department of Natural Resources, and Massachusetts Environmental and State Police.

After searching for the man until 11:45 p.m. Sunday, officials postponed the search until Monday morning due to time and weather conditions. At approximately 12:45 p.m. Monday, the man was located along the shoreline.
Investigators say no foul play is suspected and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the exact cause of death.
