Plymouth Fire Department Unveils Brand New Engine 4

PLYMOUTH, MA — Plymouth Fire Department unveiled its new truck, Engine 4, at a "wet-down" dedication ceremony Friday, said the department in a news release.

The wet-down ceremony is a ritual that dates back to the late 1800s, when fire departments used horse-drawn pumpers, and continues today for new fire engines to officially induct them into service. Plymouth Fire Department's new Engine 4 will replace the department's 2004 Pierce Dash pumper.

“Without the support we received from Town Management, the Finance Committee, the members of Select Board, Town Meeting members and of course the citizens of Plymouth, the addition of Engine 4 to our fleet would not have been possible,” Chief G. Edward Bradley said in a statement. “While the process of building a new engine is extremely long and tedious, it is well worth it and we are thrilled to be officially putting Engine 4 into service.”

Engine 4 features modern highway safety construction, a 1,500 gallon per minute pump, a 1,000 gallon water tank, a a built-in 10 kilowatt hydraulic generator and light tower, and rescue tools including the Jaws of Life.
