Plymouth South’s Baseball Head Coach Walter Fust is in his 4th year as head coach and his 15th year in the program. Coach Fust said about the new season, “I would say it’s a relief to finally be playing baseball again after missing out on the 2020 season. The kids and coaches are excited to get back to work, even though it is a condensed season. The bottom line is that we are playing ball again.”
Some COVID-19 precautions include social distancing, masks even while on the field, and screening.

Baseball had a record of 8-11 and 2nd place in the Patriot League Fisher Division in the 2019 season and they lost against Whitman-Hanson in the first round of the 2019 MIAA Baseball tournament.
Fust’s expectations are that “For the 2021 season, we expect to be extremely competitive and are excited to see what the season brings. As I told the kids, we really have no idea what the league has to offer given that everyone lost out on last year. Usually, you have some kind of idea what you are up against and that is not the case this year. So, with that said, we have a lot to prove in a season of unknowns and question marks.”
Some players to watch senior captains Hunter Dean (1B/RHP) and Adam Maher (LHP), seniors Kyle Affsa, Evan Wilson, and Robbie Clarke, juniors Tommy Sullivan, Matt Cassidy, and catcher Bryson Tetler.
Baseball will open up the regular season at Pembroke on May 7th, 4 p.m. start time. Their home opener will be on May 10th against Scituate, 4 p.m. start time. Their last scheduled regular season game will be on May 27th against North Quincy.
Softball:
Plymouth South’s Softball Coach Stephanie Finn is in her sixth season as the head coach. Coach Finn said of the new season, “speaking for myself, rest of the coaching staff, and players- we are all very excited to play and looking forward to it after missing last season.”
She said of the COVID-19 protocols, “As for the COVID-19 Protocols, they are reasonable to our sport and we will be able to adjust to them just fine. Face coverings must be worn, and spacing.”
Softball had a record of 20-3 in the 2019 season. They beat the undefeated Old Rochester and the Diman Voc Tech. Tigers, out of Fall River in the MIAA Division II South Sectional Tournament. Then in the semifinals they lost to the Fairhaven Blue Devils.
Finn’s expectations for the season are to “compete in every game and be happy to play each game.”
Players to watch: Senior captain Amelia Freitas who will be the pitcher for the team, and senior Cecelia Christopher. Juniors Morgan Brenner, Alyssa Briggs, Kiondra Boutin, Ashley MacPhail and Emily Irwin.
The softball team will open up the regular season at home on May 7th against Pembroke at 4 p.m. start time. Their last scheduled regular season game will be at North Quincy at 4 p.m.
Boys Lacrosse:
Plymouth South’s Boys Lacrosse Coach John Jardin is in his sixth year in the Boys Lacrosse program, and his fifth year as the Varsity Head Coach. Coach Jardin says this about the new season, “We are very excited and fortunate to have a season, last season was a rollercoaster of emotions that ended in a disappointed fashion. We are excited as a group to get back out on the field.”
Some COVID-19 protocols include masks on at all times, will try to maintain as much social distancing on the sideline as possible, Jardin said that he is going to try to put cones on the sidelines for social distancing.
The Boys Lacrosse team had a record of 12-9 in the 2019 season. They made their deepest run in the MIAA Division II South Sectional Tournament during that season. They beat the Old Rochester Bulldogs out of Mattapoisett in the opening round, then upset the #3 seed Canton Bulldogs, which Coach Jardin described as the biggest upset at any level in the state. They would lost to the Sandwich Blue Knights to end their season.
Since Jardin became the coach, the team made the tournament all five years, while never making it before Jardin took over.
Jardin describes his team as a young team as only 5 players who have previous varsity experience are returning to the team. He expects his younger players to step up and the older players to learn their leadership skills and be the good example for the team.
Players to watch: on the offense we have senior attackman Matt Smith who started as both a freshman and sophomore on the team. Another senior Casey Donovan who started Freshman year on the team, but did not play sophomore year due to injury and junior year due to the season cancellation due to COVID-19. On the midfield, we have junior Noah St. Germaine who started Freshman year and is the only midfielder with experience on the varsity team. On the defense we have senior defenseman Pat Quinn who is also coming off an injury, and Coach Jardin said that he will be a vocal leader on the team whether in practice or in the game. Then, we have junior Brendan Jones, who started as a freshman.
Their regular season opener will be on May 6th at Pembroke High to face the Titans, at 4 p.m. start time. Their home opener will be on Tuesday, May 11th against Whitman-Hanson at 4 p.m. Their last scheduled regular-season game will be at home against Scituate on May 27th at 4 p.m.
