Plymouth South Wins Softball Patriot Cup against North, 3-1

A great pitching performance by South's Amelia Freitas carried the team to victory in the Patriot Cup.

PLYMOUTH, MA- The Plymouth North and South Softball teams face each other in the Patriot League Championship. This is a rematch of the second round double-elimination game in which Plymouth North won 7-5 over South.

The first hit of the game was in the fourth inning when Plymouth South’s Amelia Freitas did a RBI Triple when she knocked in Morgan Brenner (walk). Then Freitas scored when Lauren Trostel did a RBI Single.

The first hit for Plymouth North was when Maggie Ladd hit a triple in the fourth, but that runner was stranded.

Plymouth North scored it’s only run when Issabella Harvey singled. Then, Kayla Rippon was the pinch-runner for Harvey. Pitcher Kylee Hefner then scored her with a RBI single to make it 2-1.

In the seventh inning, Plymouth South extended its lead when Emily Irwin tripled and then was knocked in by Alyssa Briggs RBI Single.

Freitas retired the final six Plymouth North batters to close out the game. She pitched a complete game allowed three hits, hit a batter, and struck out six batters.

Plymouth South won the Patriot Cup against Plymouth North by the score of 3-1.

Plymouth South will now advance to the MIAA Division 2 South Sectional Tournament. They will face the winner of Cardinal Spellman and Canton, which they play Friday at 3:30 p.m. Plymouth South will play on Monday at 3:30 p.m.

Plymouth North will advance to the MIAA Division 1 South Sectional Tournament. Plymouth North will face the winner of Hingham and Dartmouth, which they play on Friday at 3:30 p.m. Plymouth North will play on Monday at 3:30 p.m.
