Should Fast Food Supervisors Share in the Tip Pool?

State law does not allow supervisors to share in the tips given at fast food establishments, but advocates say supervisors often serve customers.

By Les Masterson

Legislators on Beacon Hill are discussing whether to change the way tips are divvied up in fast food restaurants in Massachusetts.

Currently, the state law does not allow supervisors to share in the tips given at fast food establishments, but advocates, including some Dunkin’ Donuts franchisees, say supervisors often serve customers, as well as handle managerial duties, reported The Boston Globe.

However, supporters of the current law say that allowing supervisors to get tips would allow restaurant owners to pay supervisors less and would reduce the compensation for all employees.

What do you think? Do you support allowing supervisors getting part of the tips?
