Swimming Banned At Plymouth Pond

The Plymouth Select Board has voted to ban swimming at Great South Pond after reports of "abusive behavior" toward the conservation land.

PLYMOUTH, MA — Swimming has been banned at Great South Pond, and parking prohibited on Drew Road, after area Plymouth residents reported "offensive and abusive behavior" from visitors toward the conservation land.

Town officials said photographs and other concerns indicated that the conservation land, which is restricted for passive purposes, was being abused.

"We must do as much as we can to prevent the negative impacts to the areas around Great South and Little South from the illegal parking on Drew Road," town officials said. "Therefore, the Select Board members voted last evening to ban swimming in this area and strictly enforce 'no parking' on Drew Road. Please take note of these changes."
