Whitman Mother Indicted In Death Of Her 2-Year-Old Toddler
The Plymouth County District Attorney's Office said Shaniqua Leonard was indicted on a charge of manslaughter on Monday.
BROCKTON, MA — A Whitman mother was indicted on a manslaughter charge in the death of her 2-year-old daughter in December.
The Plymouth County District Attorney's Office said on Monday that the charge against Shaniqua Leonard, 29, was upgraded to manslaughter from reckless endangerment of a child. Police arrived at the family's home on Washington Street on Dec. 28 and found Lyric Farrell unconscious and suffering from several injuries.
The girl was brought to Brockton Hospital, then taken to Boston Children's Hospital, but was removed from life support on Dec. 31.

The DA's Office said the upgrade in the charge was based on the completion of the Medical Examiner's Office autopsy and a Whitman police investigation.
Leonard was arrested late Monday afternoon and scheduled to be arraigned in Brockton Superior Court on Tuesday.
