Woman Killed In Plymouth Crash After Car Veers Into River

Fire officials found the car upside down and partially submerged in the Eel River in Plymouth off Route 3.

PLYMOUTH, MA — A woman died in a car crash Monday afternoon on Route 3 in Plymouth when her car veered off the highway and ended up in a river, according to Plymouth fire officials.

The crash took place around 12:50 p.m., on the southbound side of the highway near Exit 12. Fire officials found the car upside down and partially submerged in the Eel River. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Emergency officials have not released the woman's identity.

Traffic remained backed up on Route 3 in both directions for hours on Monday afternoon. Fire officials said Route 3 southbound was partially closed while authorities investigated the crash.
