Roslindale Gas Main Fire Finally Out
Roslindale finally knows a 2018 without fire being shot from the ground.

ROSLINDALE, MA — That inferno rising up from the ground like the flames of the underworld? The ones fueled by the very gas that is helping to power thousands of homes? That fire has reached its demise, some 45 hours after it started.
The Roslindale gas main fire was out by around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, National Grid said.
Roslindale had never known 2018 without the flames that erupted from a gas main on Hyde Park Ave. around 6:30 p.m. Sunday. It injured three workers that night, all of whom reportedly suffered first- or second-degree burns.

Since then, the fire had been steadily burning skyward. National Grid crews spent most of Monday building a bypass line so they could work on the one leaking flames.
Crews never wanted to shut off the gas fueling the flame because that gas helped provide power and heat to more than 8,000 people. When the temperature straddles zero degrees for days on end, that's an important consideration.

While fire shot from the ground in one part of Boston, water quickly turned to ice when spewing out of the ground in another part.
All of this created some serious delays and detours for folks attempting to take the 33 or 32 Bus anywhere near Hyde Park.
