Hebrew SeniorLife R.N. Helen Cachuela Recognized In Boston Globe's Salute to Nurses
The May 10 edition of the Boston Globe featured its annual “Salute to Nurses.” West Roxbury resident Helen Cachuela, R.N., was recognized for her exemplary work as a nurse at Harvard Medical School affiliate Hebrew SeniorLife (HSL), a nonprofit organization that’s committed to improving the lives of older adults as a leader in the field of senior care. HSL is based in Roslindale.
The annual “Salute to Nurses” publication recognizes nurses whose dedication and caring have saved lives, soothed fears, and eased the pain of countless patients and their families. The Boston Globe received nearly 500 nominations for its 2020 edition.
Cachuela joined HSL 12 years ago and works at Hebrew Rehabilitation Center (HRC) in Roslindale. HRC is HSL’s long-term chronic care hospital with campuses in Roslindale and at NewBridge on the Charles in Dedham. Helen was nominated by her colleague Ross Mangilog, a Nurse Manager.

In his “Salute to Nurses” nomination, Mangilog said, “Helen is fondly called a ‘Jack of all Trades’ on the floor. You can ask her to do things either urgently or as needed and she’ll always respond respectfully and appropriately. Just last month when the charge nurse position was vacated, Helen, as usual, stepped up to the plate and assumed the interim charge nurse position. She volunteered to mentor, train, and shadow whomever will be hired as the new charge nurse. Helen’s calm demeanor and positive attitude makes her well-liked and respected by her fellow employees. She always practices person centered-care and maintains the priority to give first to patients and their families as well.”
Hebrew SeniorLife offers many opportunities for nurses to advance their careers through professional development, tuition assistance, and leadership opportunities.
