Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.

3. Children's Librarian Linda Dashnaw announced the winner of the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners' summer reading partnership with the Boston Bruins. The grand prize for ages 6 to 12 was awarded to Shyam Siva of Shrewsbury. Shyam received a certificate entitling him to high-five the Boston Bruins as they get ready to take the ice at the Boston Bruins home game on Thursday, March 29.  Shyam's participation in the summer reading program at the  last summer made him eligible for this award.
4. Openings are still available for town meeting members for this May's town election. It is a great way to volunteer for the town and be in the know. Turn in nomination papers to the by tomorrow at 5 p.m.

5. Happy 100th birthday to the Girls Scouts of America. On this day in 1912, the organization was formed by Juliette Gordon Low and is still going strong. in Shrewsbury is offering 50 percent off its studio fee if you are a Girl Scout. Thank the Girls Scouts for all the tagalongs we've enjoyed through the years.
