Gas Leak Closes Home Depot Overnight

Snow removal accidentally cuts gas feed and Home Depot will not get heat tonight.

While workers were attempting to remove snow from the roof of Home Depot, a Bobcat cut the gas feed on the regulatory in the back.

At 11:18 p.m. last night, the Fire Department responded to Home Depot, where they donned full protective gear and shut off the valve by midnight.

"They won't have any heat for tonight because NStar said they can't fix it until the morning," said Fire Captain William Cummings. "This is the eighth gas leak this week with residences and businesses because of the snow removal."

Cummings and Firefighters Tim Parmenter and Mike Bowles responded with Engine 2 and the tower truck and were able to stop the gas leak.

In other news in town, is closed because their canopy was weakened by the snow and is now unsafe, according to Cummings.

Cummings warns residents and business owners to be careful when removing snow around their exhaust pipes, so as not to cause a leak.

As of this morning, the Home Depot is open, but a little cold, according to a worker who answered the phone. So don't take off your jacket until NStart gets back to the store to fix it later on today.
