Help Make Walking in Shrewsbury Safer

A local workshop will help determine improvements around town that will make it safer to walk.

The following information was submitted by Nicholas Burnham, transportation planning assistant, Central Massachusetts Regional Planning Commission:

Shrewsbury has been selected to participate in the Walkable Communities Initiative in an effort to make the communities in our region more pedestrian friendly. The initiative is being funded by the Central Massachusetts Metropolitan Planning Organization (CMMPO).

Shrewsbury residents are invited to participate in a single three-hour “Walkable Community” workshop, which will take place on Thursday, June 21, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the , located at 100 Maple Ave., Shrewsbury.You can help develop realistic strategies to make the town a safer and more pleasant place to walk.

At the workshop, you will learn more about successful pedestrian design, safety, education, enforcement, and encouragement. These concepts will be related to the Maple Avenue Corridor during the workshop. A walking audit to this area will help identify obstacles to walking and suggest potential short-term and long-term solutions. Please wear comfortable shoes and clothing suitable for the weather that day.
