Lifelong Shrewsbury Resident Dies

Teresa J. (Grande) McCann, 88, of Shrewsbury, died on Wednesday.

Teresa J. (Grande) McCann, 88, of Shrewsbury, died on Wednesday, May 23 in Saint Vincent Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Teresa is survived by her loving family, including her husband of 61 years, William H. McCann; a son, Terrence McCann of Shrewsbury; three daughters, Linda Belliveau and her wife Maureen Asten of Fort Lauderdale, Carole McCann-Gaboury and her husband John Gaboury of Worcester and Lisa McCann of Saint Petersburg, FL; two brothers, Gerolimo “Gerry” Grande and John Grande and his wife Mona, all of Shrewsbury; three grandchildren, Jacquelyn Gaboury, Matthew Souza and Michael Souza; many nieces and nephews.

Teresa was born in Shrewsbury, daughter of Nicola and Elisabetta (Preziosa) Grande, and has remained a life-long resident of the town.

Teresa worked as an inspector for many years at Jamesbury Corporation, retiring in 1987. She had previously worked at GE-Telecron and Olson Manufacturing. She was born and raised above her parents’ store, Grande’s Market, where she remained close to her family, and no doubt had her first job.
She was a member of , the church woman’s club and the . She enjoyed traveling, BINGO, her plants and music, especially opera. Teresa loved her family and fed them with her wonderful cooking and her selfless love. She also enjoyed a good party and would insist on hosting birthday parties with her husband at their home for everyone in the family, without fail.

Calling hours for Teresa will be held Friday, May 25, from 4 until 7 p.m. in Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, from the funeral home, with a Mass celebrated at 10:30 a.m. in St. Anne’s Church, 120 Boston Turnpike Road (route 9), Shrewsbury. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.
