Microwave Fire Chars Shrewsbury Kitchen, Injures One

A microwave and stove top fire at an apartment in Shrewsbury melted some appliances, damaged the kitchen and left one with minor burns.

SHREWSBURY, MA — Shrewsbury fire crews put out an apartment fire on Sunday that severely damaged the kitchen of the unit and left one person inside with injuries.

The fire started in a microwave and on a stove top in an apartment at the Days Inn on Route 9 on Sunday afternoon. A resident in the hotel tried to use two fire extinguishers to put out the fire. Shrewsbury fire officials said the extinguisher kept the fire from spreading long enough for firefighters to arrive.

The fire was contained to one unit but the kitchen area was charred and severely damaged by the fire as well as the appliances.
