Pedestrian Struck by Car on Route 9
A pedestrian was taken to UMASS for injuries sustained when he was struck by a car on Route 9.

At 8:36 a.m. this morning, the Shrewsbury Police, Fire and EMS responded to Route 9 eastbound near the White City Shopping Plaza for a report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle.
Police said the pedestrian, Aziz Malko, 67, of Holden, MA, was a passenger in a motor vehicle that was stopped. Malko exited the motor and attempted to cross Route 9. "While crossing he was struck by a motor vehicle, a 2009 Hyundai operated by Barry M. Ginsburg, 32 years old, of Worcester, MA," said Shrewsbury Police Sgt. Alfred Pratt in a press release.
Pratt said two off-duty EMT's who witnessed the accident and other witnesses rendered aid until emergency personnel arrived.

Malko was transported to UMASS Medical Trauma Center in Worcester, MA by Shrewsbury/UMASS EMS Paramedics with serious injuries.
Police said two lanes of Route 9 were closed for approximately two hours while police investigated at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation and is being conducted by Shrewsbury Police Officer Richard H. Fiske, Shrewsbury Police Accident Reconstructionist. Sgt. Kevin Anderson, Officer Kevin Warwick, and Officer Shawn Valliere of the Shrewsbury Police also assisted.
