Requirements for Teacher Gifts
The Shrewsbury School Department has set up parameters for gift giving for teachers.

With the holiday season upon us, many would like to give gifts to those who shape our children's lives.
While it is the season of giving, there are some restrictions set forth by the state Ethics Commission.

Public employees are NOT allowed to accept a gift worth $50 or more ($49.99 or less is ok) if receiving the gift for the job (personal gift). This includes gifts from parents and students including cash, gift certificates, merchandise, tickets to events, services for one's home or vehicle, etc. for their personal benefit. The Ethics Commission has deemed that teachers may receive personal "class gifts" of up to $150 ($149.99 or less is ok) per year, according to the school department.
Gifts of more than $50 from and individual or $150 from a class may be accepted IF they are designated for the school or classroom rather than a personal gift. These gifts become the property of the school not the educator.
