Selectmen Authorize One Free Trash Bag on Christmas
Selectmen give each resident a gift at the holidays.

authorized a one-bag free program during the holiday week between Dec. 27 and Dec. 31. This is the fourth year of this program that has proved to be so popular.
Pay as you Throw (PAYT) customers will be allowed to place at the curb one (up to 35 gallon or smaller) plastic, non-PAYT trash bag on their normal day of collection during the period of Dec. 27, 28, 29, 30 and 31.
The trash pick-up schedule is delayed by one day since Dec. 26 is being observed as the Christmas Holiday.

In addition, a single Christmas tree may be left by the curb without a sticker or attached PAYT bag from Dec. 26 to Jan. 31 that will also be picked up free of charge. All other rules associated with the town's curbside solid waste collection program remain in effect.
Residents are encouraged to make of the one free bag to discard of gift wrap, ribbon and Styrofoam packaging which are all not recyclable at curbside.

Selectmen has taken this action as a small token of appreciation of the excellent efforts of Shrewsbury residents in making the PAYT so successful during 2011.
