Selectmen to Decide Fate of Perpetually Loose Dog

The selectmen closed a hearing and will decide the fate of a black and white boxer at its next meeting.

heard complaints from three residents and about Drexel, a dog that continually gets out of his fenced in yard on Memorial Drive.

Drexel, whose owner is Kimberly Collins of 47 Memorial Dr., did not attend the hearing, though the town received notice that she received a letter about the hearing on the fate of the dog.

Drexel is no stranger to the selectmen because in 2010, there was a hearing before the selectmen to decide Drexel's fate.

"In 2009 and 2010, numerous tickets were given out because Drexel was found on 18 Patriot Ln., directly behind Collins’ property," Pease said. "He was running loose on the property and defecating on the property."

There are now two dogs licensed to Collins, Drexel and a pit bull, who have both been off the property as recently as April 12, according to neighbors Maria and Charles Kaperson of 18 Patriot Ln.

"These tickets aren’t doing anything," Charles Kaperson said.

"Another selectmen from the previous board asked for evidence and we got a digital camera the next day," said Maria Kaperson. "We've submitted photos every time we can see the dogs on our property, but sometimes they run away too quickly."

The selectmen asked for clarification about what happened at the 2010 hearing, though some information submitted said the selectmen asked for a better enclosure and an electric fence, neither of which was done by the homeowner.

The selectmen are expected to make a decision about the fate of Drexel at the next meeting for the selectmen on May 1 at 7 p.m. at the .
