Shrewsbury Grandmother Dies

Mary A. Carlin died in her home this week.

Mary A. (Boulay) Carlin, 65, of Shrewsbury, died unexpectedly Friday, March 23 in her home.

She leaves her husband and best friend of 43 years, James F. Carlin, a retired ; three wonderful sons, Christopher D. Carlin and his fiancé, Anh Dao Nguyen of Webster, James F. Carlin, Jr., of Seattle, WA and Shawn Carlin and his wife, Alyssa of Fitchburg; a brother, Rahn O. Boulay and his wife, Joan of Auburn; a sister, Darlyn A. Piuze and her husband, Roger of Shrewsbury; four beautiful grandchildren, Gabriella, Dylan, Alivia and Kayla; also survived by several nieces, nephews and her little loveable furry friend, Sweet Pea.

Mary was born and raised in Worcester, daughter of the late Omer N. and Helena (McLaughlin) Boulay. She graduated from Worcester Girls Trade High School with a cosmetology degree in 1965. After graduation, she was employed in the Hair Salon at the former Denholm and McKay Department Store in Worcester for five years.

In 1969, she married her long-time love Jim Carlin. They settled in Shrewsbury where they started their family and for the next 12 years Mary was delighted to be a stay-at-home Mom and raise her three boys. In 1984, she joined the work force again, working for Robin Sales, Cherry and Webb, The Catalog Fashion Outlet located in Shrewsbury. For the past 10 years, Mary was working as the receptionist at also located in Shrewsbury. Yet, her true love was caring for her grandchildren.

Relatives and friends were invited to visit with Mary’s family on Monday, March 26 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the , 648 Main St., Shrewsbury. Her funeral was held on Tuesday, March 27 from the funeral home with her funeral Mass being celebrated at 10 a.m. in , 130 Boston Tpke., Shrewsbury. Burial was in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.
